RESTORATIVE JUSTICE
There is a Restorative Justice Movement much as, historically, there has been a Labor Movement, a Civil Rights Movement, and a Women's Movement.
Dr. Martin Luther King's March on Washington, D.C. was a once-in-a-lifetime experience back in the 1960's. That event had a powerful and positive effect on the Civil Rights Movement.
The NATIONAL CONVOCATION OF JAIL AND PRISON MINISTRY brings advocates of "Restorative Justice" together most every year and it is having a powerful and positive effect on all those involved. For us, Restorative Justice means that the offender as well as the victim and the whole community must be restored after a crime has done its damage.
Unfortunately, the 2010 National Convocation which was to be held May 1st in Williston Florida was not able to happen. You can be certain, however, that St. Louis will host a Convocation May 15-18, 2011. (Go to our new web site-www.ncjpm.org).
We are a completely volunteer group with no paid staff. It is a marvel that in 30 years we have missed holding a Convocation only two times! That speaks loudly of the value the participants put on these annual gatherings.
For approximately $300, the Convocation is probably one of the most economical opportunities you will ever have to spend 4 days with such a great group of people. On top of that, the programs are very valuable. This Convocation in St. Louis looks like it will be really special (see details at our new web site www.ncjpm.org). Plan now to come yourself or get a group together to organize transportation.
